By 2020, the United States will have more than 2.4 billion people living in the country.
A typical home will hold more than 6,000 square feet of living space.
That’s more than double the size of most households in the world.
This is a staggering amount of space.
To make matters worse, it’s only the start of the ecological problem, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
The organization, which was founded in 1992, has an annual carbon footprint of about 400 metric tons.
According to the report, if the world’s population doubled from today to 2050, the environmental impact would increase by 7.4 million metric tons, or about 2.3% of the planet’s total emissions.
That number is far larger than the United Nations’ estimate of 2.6% of Earth’s emissions.
So how does a country manage its ecological footprint?
One solution is for citizens to take ownership of their land and water.
The IUCN calls this a “land, water and energy transition,” which could potentially save the planet as much as $100 billion a year by 2050.
That amount could also be used to improve public health, which is a key factor in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In fact, the IUCNC estimates that a 20% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions could reduce greenhouse gas pollution by 5.3 billion metric tons of CO2.
It could also lower water consumption by up to 8% and save the country $1.4 trillion in water bills per year.
But the ICCN is skeptical of this idea, citing concerns about climate change and its impacts.
“It’s a big leap to say we can change the way we use the planet,” said IUCNF senior scientist Robert Watson.
“You could change the energy we use, you could change how we harvest it, you can change how the world consumes water, you have a very limited amount of land that you could put in a conservation plan.”
If we can’t change how things are, the future is bleak, said Watson.
There are a lot of good things that could be done to protect the environment.
But there are also a lot more people that we need to talk to.
“The best way to make this happen is to start talking to each other about what’s the best way forward,” Watson said.
“We need to come together to say, ‘Okay, what are the things that can be done together?'”
The ICCNC is trying to get more people involved with conservation through their conservation and energy work.
“I think one of the most exciting things about the ICA is how they are helping to bring more people into the conversation about what we can do together,” Watson added.
“If you can get them involved in something that’s going to help the planet and it’s something that can make a difference in their life, then you can make it happen.”
